A LITTLE WORLD FOR LITTLE PEOPLE
BABIES, FLOWERS AND FEATHER DUSTERS
FRIENDSHIP IS A STEADY LIGHT SHINING IN DARK PLACES
•WHERE is the Little Thought, I wonder?” asked, the DoorIT keeper, deftly adding a touch of gold to the rigging of the Tittle boat in the competition picture. “I wanted his opinion on my painting, but I haven’t seen him for quite half an hour.” “He is very busy just now,” answered the Joyshop man. “When last I sa w him he was filling a wee pot with earth under the Happiness Tree and planting some little green things that a Sunbeam has sent the Dawn Lady. She says if the Little Thought plants them they are sure to grow.” “They sent her violets and roses this week, too,” remarked the Doorkeeper, “and a wee boy made a tiny feather duster for the Little Thought. I saw him trying it on some flowers the first thing this morning.” “Yes,” laughed the Joyshop man, “he is going to leave it in my charge every day, because we all know that you use a feather duster in the Plaee-of-You-Never-Can-Tell. By the way, I have had such an interesting morning. A Sunbeam has a new little brother and she has ordered some special baby joys for him. She asked for pink and gold and white ones and now they are all parcelled up ready to send. When he has a name he is coming down Tiptoe Street. Babies always remind me of.flowers with their wondering eyes opening on a new world.” “I like them, too,” reflected the Doorkeeper, “and I always send them a jingle of my keys. That makes them crow with delight and their mothers wonder why they are so happy.” “You mustn’t miss the competition stories this time,” said the Dawn Lady, peering in at the door with a large basket under her arm. “Some of them have brought Spring to Happy Town and are sweet with growing things. As I read them I could see little men working in children’s garden plots helping the peas and bulbs to grow. Then a little tailor person held a long consultation with me under the Happiness Tree. He has promised to make a suit for the Little Thought. Why, I must fly! Just look at all the new Sunbeams coming down Tiptoe Street, Little Thought, where are you? Come quickly and bring your notebook.”
