HARDY’S BIOGRAPHY
Mrs. Thomas Hardy, who is at work arranging material for her husband’s biography, has herself a gifted pen. As Florence Dugdale she wrote some charming children’s stories, thought well of by so good a critic as Sir James Barrie. Since her marriage to Hardy 14 years ago, she has done little writing, as she felt that the wife of a distinguished author should keep in the background. As the mistress of Max Gate, she was a charming hostess to Hardy’s friends, and had the honour of entertaining the Prince of Wales to luncheon. When presiding over the dinner of the Royal Literary Fund two years ago, the Prince referred to his admiration for Hardy's writings.
