DR. T. M. O’CALLAGHAN

The Rev. Thaddeus Mellicent O’Callaghan died in Hamilton yesterday, aged 82 years. Born at Bandon County Cork, Ireland, he" was educated for the Church and pursued his studies in Ireland and Europe. He obtained the degree of Doctor of Divinity at the University of Salamanca at the age of 22 years, a distinction only twice previously emulated. Arriving in New Zealand 45 years ago he acted as vicar of St. John’s, Invercargill, and then moved to Auckland, being vicar of the Epiphany Church. Later he was parish priest at St. George’s, Thames, retiring in 1916. He was a prominent Freemason. He leaves a widow and two daughters, Mrs. G. P. Rogers and Mrs. C,. E. Armstrong, of Hamilton.
