ACTRESS DIES OF GRIEF
MISS KATHERINE COMPTON (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian P.A.—United Service) LONDON, Thursday. The death has occurred of the actress, Katherine Compton, the widow of the dramatist, Mr. R. C. Critchett, who wrote as R. C. Carton. Her husband died on April 1, and sho died from grief at her loss. Miss Compton played the chief parts in her husband’s productions. She was regarded as one of England’s most finished comedy actresses.
Miss Katherine Compton was a member of the well-known stage family of Compton. She first appeared on the stage at Bristol in 1574, in “The School for Scandal,” and in London at the Gaiety, in 1877. Since ISSS she had appeared almost exclusively in plays written by her husband, R. C. Carton, including “Lord and Lady Algy, "Public Opinion,” "Mr. Preedy and the Countess.” She had .played in recent years at most of the leading London theatres.
