GHOSTS IN THEATRE
DRESSING-ROOM SAID TO BE HAUNTED Is the spirit of William Terriss haunting his old room at the Adelphi Theatre ? Mysterious tappings heard in the room incline some people to the belief that this is the case, writes a London exchange. Terriss was murdered at the stage door of the Adelphi in 1897. The room he used is now occupied by June, who said she had frequently heard the mysterious rappings. “I hear taps on the door, and there is no one there,” she explained. “Often it happens when the lights are out and I am resting between the shows. “Suddenly there is an enormous rap under my chair, and the chair shakes At other times I hear the knockings when the room is full of light. Often when there are other people in the room some hear the tapping and others do not.” Miss Giory Edgar, who has also heard the mysterious raps, thinks they come from William Terriss. “They seem to be quite friendly.” she added, “and we have got quite ‘matey’ with them now and listen for them.”
