WOMAN’S HONOUR

WIFE ABSENT FROM DIVORCE ACTION A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE “The Court is entitled to more information than it obtains from these medical certificates,” said Mr. Justice Blair at the Supreme Court this morning in connection with a petition for divorce. The petition for dissolution of marriage with Mary Harley was brought by Henry Harley, contractor, of Waihi. Mr. Schramm appeared for the petitioner, .and Mr. Watson for the respondent. When the case was called this morning, Mr. Watson applied for an adjournment on the ground that the respondent was at present indisposed. His Honour pointed out that a somewhat awkward position had arisen in that a jury had been empanelled the previous day and he could not hold it until the following week. Mr. Schramm formally opposed the adjournment. He said he was prepared to proceed with the case and had four witnesses present from Waihi. WASHING LINEN Commenting on the medical certificate handed in by Mr. Watson, his Honour stated that it should contain more information as to the nature of the illness. In the present case the reason on which the opinion as to the woman’s health had been based, should be stated. Mr. Schramm said that he had been informed by telephone from Waihi that respondent had been seen on Tuesday hanging out washing and the co-respondent was helping her. His Honour said it was a case touching the honour of a woman and in view of the fact that the woman was indisposed he could not proceed to hear the action. He proposed to adjourn the case until Monday when a fresh N jury would be available.
