FAREWELL TO OLD RESIDENTS The annual meeting of parshioners of St. John's Anglican Church, Waihi, was held in the church hall on Wednesday. In the absence, through illness, of the vicar, the Rev. Canon Wayne, Mr. E. Dunston presided. The balance sheet showed a ■nail deficit in the church funds, but with the introduction of the duplex envelope system, the members hoped to more than make this up during the coming year. The election of officers resulted: People’s warden, Mr. H- *>• Dale; vicar's warden, Mr. E. Durston, vestry, Messrs. H. Chilvers, F. Heath. A. T. Crosher, W. H. Yates. H. James, R. C. D. Lightbourne, E. Speak, F. Rsj. * * * The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Houghton, of Waikino. had a narrow escape from drowning on Tuesday. The little child, while P» a -" ing near some water, tumbled in ac was carried some distance before being rescued. She received medical txt& ment, and is now '’-ogressing favourably. * * * A social and dance was held in mata Public Hall on Tuesday evening for the purpose of riaking prese tations to the McGrath and families, who are leaving the w district.
