MARITIME DISPUTE UNIONS TO NEGOTIATE (United P.A.—By Telegraph Copyright) Reed. noon. MELBOURNE, Thursday At a late hour the maritime conference carried a resolution that the Australian Council of Trades Unions in conjunction with The committee of the Maritime Unions, open negotiations with the shipowners for a settlement of the cooks’ dispute. There are now 17 ships idle directly and indirectly through the dispute with the marine cooks and 1,158 men have been thrown out of work.
