EAST AND WEST MEET

MAHARAJAH’S GESTURE TO WORLD MARRIAGE TO AMERICAN (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association.), LONDON, Tuesday. In a beautiful chateau near St. Germain, France, the ex-Maharajah of Indore, who wishes in future to be known as Sir Tukoji Holkar, gave a representative of the “Daily Express” his first interview since the world discussed his marriage to the American girl, Miss Nancy Miller. He said: “I do not want Western people to look lightly on our marriage. By marrying the Maharanee I have extended my hand to the West. It is for the West to understand the gesture in the right way, and to welcome it. We are showing the world that a close union between the East and West is possible.” The Maharanee, who is tall, slim and graceful, was present at the interview. She said: “By adopting Hinduism I have not given up Christianity. I will never give it up. Hinduism contains all the essentials of other religions and of other philosophies. I have found in Hinduism a stronger striving toward brotherhood and a greater love for other human beings than in other religions. I shall always love to return to India. I cannot describe the kindness of Indians toward me.”
