HAMILTON WATER
IMPROVING PRESSURE PROPOSAL TO RAISE LOAN (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Wednesday. It was announced to-day that the Hamilton Borough Council will shortly apply to the Local Government Loans Board for permission to raise a loan of £15,670 for water improvements. The money will provide, inter alia, for a new pumping station and intake, a chemical treatment plant, four new Candy filters, and various reticulation improvements.
In a statement the Mayor, Mr. J. J. R. Fow, said the proposed loan is designed to supply the first part of a scheme of improvements which will provide the town with an efficient supply for all purposes. Until increased reservoir capacity, with some method of increasing the pressure, was available, the town would not receive from insurance companies forming the Fire Underwriters’ Association the maximum reduction in its classification for insurance purposes. The Mayor said if the loan was not approved improvements would have to be supplied out of revenue, and the delay thus entailed would place the town in such a position that for some time to come the water would not be very palatable and the pressure would be poor. The improvements will greatly assist the Borough Council in dealing with the large amount of silt brought down by the -River. _
