DEPARTMENTAL VETOES
HOSPITAL AND EDUCATION A WELLINGTON DEADLOCK Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. An unusual situation has developed in Wellington, the Department of Health vetoing the appointment by the Wellington Hospital Board of Dr. B. Ewen as medical superintendent, on the grounds that the regulations have not been complied with, and the Department of Education vetoing the Wellington Education Board’s appointment of Mr. E. R. Lomas as principal of the Wellington Training College. The Department of Health has communicated with the Hospital Board, objecting to the appointment of Dr. Ewen, pointing out that the objection is not based on personal grounds but is made because the procedure adopted by the board did not conform with the Act. The next meeting of the Hospital board will take place on May 31, when probably the matter will be put in order and the appointment made in accordance with the Act. The Wellington Education Board yesterday decided to adhere to its previous decision recommending the appointment of Mr. E. K. Lomas as principal of the Training College. The present position is that there is a deadlock between the board and the department on the subject.
