NOT A CLEAR SATURDAY
PROBLEM IN TRANSFERRING RUGBY PLAYER Transferring: a North. Auckland player to the ranks of the City Club raised an unusual point at last evening’s meeting of the Auckland Rugby Union. The rule governing transfers states that a player coming from an outside district must reside in the city one clear Saturday before playing in a game. Arriving in Auckland on Saturday at nine o’clock in the morning, the player in question wished to play the following Saturday, by which time he would have been in Auckland a week and six hours, though strictly not for an unbroken Saturday. After some discussion, in which several members held that the letter of the rule should be adhered to, it was decided that, for the purposes of the rule, Saturday be held to start at 1 p.m. when the first of the afternoon matches commenced.
