MOTOR LICENCES

MR. LUXFORD’S RULING QUESTIONED IS EXPIRY DATE FIXED? (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, To-day. Another case of failing to hold this year’s driver’s licence was brought against a motor owner in the Police Court ot-dav, before Mr. F. W. Platts, S.M. Mr. Swarbrick, borough solicitor, criticised Mr. Luxford’s action in dismissing 15 cases last week under the Justices of the Peace Act. Counsel contended that the magistrate’s decision was wrong, and that he had dismissed the cases without hearing argument, and that if there was no merit in the cases he should have dismissed them straight out, and not under the provisions of the Justices of the Peace Act. He submitted further that as the local authority inscribed on the licence the date of expiry, this legally fixed the term. The magistrate reserved his decision.
