Asked in the House of Commons whether he could make a statement regarding the negotiations in connection with the Anglo-American arbitration treaty, which expires in June. Sir Austen Chamberlain said the draft treaty to replace the present treaty, which was communicated by the United States Government, did not In all respects meet the particular requirements of his Majesty’s Government in Great Britain. In view of the complexity of the questions involved and the necessity of full consultation with the Governments in the Dominions, further time would be required before a decision conld be reached. In the circumstances. it had been suggested to the United States Government that the present Bryce Treaty should be temporarily extended. There was some doubt, however, whether the United States Senate would trouble to consider these questions before the forthcoming election.
