Cancer Theory to be Given Fair Trial
MR. F. R. HELD TO WORK AMONG I , HOSPITAL PATIENTS
Mr. Frederick R. Field, who recently announced in THE SUN that fie had discovered the cause of cancer, has been granted permission by the Auckland Hospital Board to work among its cancer patients, under the supervision of a committee of three experts.
**l think w© might very well refer this to the medical superintendent. Dr. Maguire/* said the board’s chairman, Mr. Wallace, when a request from Mr. FiJld was under discussion at yesterday’s meeting. Mr. Field says that he is willing to work under a committee of three ex-
perts. Surely there cannot be any objection to that ... There might be something in what he says, and it is not right that we should turn him down.” Mr. Field asked that his proposed treatment should be tested and “applied as thoroughly and as widely as possible” upon cancer cases at tho hospital, and the Epsom Infirmary, or both institutions. Before this could be done it would be necessary for him, of course, to explain his methods to the superintendent, and to any members of the board who might care to attend. Only staff officials, Mr. Field insisted, would be permitted actually to administer the treatment.
“Once inaugurated the simple treatment could easily be given by the nurses, and some fairly definite results might be expected within a few weeks.”
