PILOT HIT WITH HAMMER

EXTRAORDINARY ATTACK IN MID-AIR PLANE SMASHED UP (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association.) NEW YORK, Monday. An extraordinary affair is reported from Pontiac, Michigan. Mr. Harry Anderson, a commercial pilot, had completed a flight and was searching for a landing field when he was attacked by an apparently demented passenger. The latter struck him on the head with a hammer. Mr. Anderson was temporarily stunned and the plane nose-dived. The pilot recovered consciousness in time to right the machine when it was close to the ground. It was demolished, but the occupants were not injured. The passenger did not explain his action. Curiously enough the plane landed on the property of a mental hospital.
