Ned Kelly Is Jumping Nicely

SCHOOLING AT WANGANUI COVENT GARDEN IN GREAT ORDER? (Special to THE S LA) WANGANUI, Monday. Fairly heavy showers early this morning did not afford a very pronJSns outlook for training operauons for the Wanganui meeting- but the weather cleared later and only a few showers fell during the work, was of a light order. Several visiting trainers were out with their charges but most of the Taranaki mentors will arrive to-morrow. There was no jumping over the big fences this morning. but to-morrow there will be several displays by fancied candidates for the big double. . Most of the work this morning was done on number two track, which was in great order in spite of the rain, put pace work was the case in the majority of instances. Just So has recovered from a cold, and was given easy pace work. He is engaged at Otaki. but may not be ready for serious business till the Wellington winter fixture. WENDAY HAS IMPROVED Wenday was allotted a couple of circuits on the outside of the hurdle track at nice half-pace, and hit out freely. The Day Comet mare has improved with recent racing. White Ringlet was given three furlongs at three-quarter pace on the outside of number two track. She wears a rather jaded appearance, having been off her feed for a period. Brigadier Bill and Ruby Ring were sent round on number two at threequarter pace, and then cantered for another circuit. Both have brightened up after racing at Hawera. They will jump the big country to-morrow morning. Avro and Glenross separately did strong pacework on number two track, and hit out attractively. Limosa is back on the tracks once more after an absence since the Awapuni autumn fixture, and was given light exercise. MIGHT WIN AT MEETING Covent Garden and Curtain were allotted easy tasks on the inside. It

would not be surprising to see the former on the list of winners at the meeting. Curtain will undergo a preparation for the Trentham winter meeting. Others to perform useful tasks were Tuki, Aberfeldy, Maunga, Red Fuchsia, Peneus, Resinous, King Mart, Puwhero, Whenuanui, Royal Elm and Perle do Leon. OVER THE STICKS A couple of interesting bouts over the battens were seen. Teuler (Mr. I. Higgie) and Harrowgale, two hunters from C. Gordon’s stable, were associated over two flights of pony hurdles, both shaping proficiently.

Shining Armour was sent over four flights of the same obstacles and cleared them well, but showed a tendency to run down his fences. However, he jumped cleanly and with a ilttle schooling will make good over hurdles. F. Corlett was in the saddle. A fine display of hurdling at a fast clip was given by Ned Kelly (F. Corlett). With two flights straightened up to about 3ft, the Quin Abbey gelding flew his fences in great style, drawing pointed attention to his May Hurdles engagement. Among the arrivals to-day were Comical, Mister Gamp, and Vexatious.
