Captain Crawford has now pur- i chased the well-bred pony performer. Flying Start, from Mr. A. B. Cowell, and in the course of a few days the daughter of the great mare, Wakeful, will leave Australia. Flying Start was given an exhaustive veterinary test and was sold for 350 guineas. It is no novelty for an Australian mare to be utilised for breeding in England. Punka, by' Cooltrim — Drowsy, is the dam of Black "W atch, one of the favourites for the coming English Derby. WINNERS AT HOME Many Australian performers have gone to England to and among those who did well there are Australian Star, who won the Cambridgeshire and Cesarewitch, Merman, who won the Ascot Gold Cup, City and Suburban Handicap and many w.f.a. races. Maluma won the Cambridgeshire: The Grafter scored in the City and Suburban Handicap, while Aurum won two handicaps, and came back to Australia for stud purposes. Great Scot, after winning the St. Leger and Australian Cup, wen t to India, where he won two Viceroy Cups, then he went to England and won many races. Dalkeith, one of the greatest picnic performers in Australia, followed Great Scot’s performance by winning two Governor’s Cups in India, and then went to England to win the Newbury Cup. Moifaa went across from New Zealand to win the Grand National Steeple at Aintree. Taking Time The chestnut two-year-old. Sir Bussell, is a daily attendant at the Ellerslie tracks, but he has not been set tasks of a strenuous nature. M. Ryan has him looking really w*ell just now, and it would be pleasing to chronicle a win for his trainer, who has shown great patience with the Archiestown gelding. Sir Russell has grown into a fine looking gelding, and is the biggest of his age at headquarters.
