Lowden (Illinois) told the Senate Campaign Committee that his Chicago headquarters collected £12,900 and spent £12,000 up to May 11. Mr. Lowden pounded the committee table at one period during the hearing, when he declared that he entered the presidential contest because he believed the Republican Party should re-establish an alliance between agriculture and industry.
