The New Zealand Davis Cup team eliminated Portugal in the second round of the cup contest. In the second singles Young (New Zealand) defeated Coelho, 4 —6, 6 —l, 6—3, 6—o, and Andrews defeated Verda, 6—3, 6—4, 6—l. The New Zealanders, who had a bye in the first round, thus defeated Portugal by four matches to one. New Zealand will meet Czecho-Slovakia in the third round of the Davis Cup contest. The match has to be played by June 13. INDIANS BEAT SWISS Reed. 10.46 a.m. ZURICH, Monday. In the Davis Cup second round India beat Switzerland by three matches to two and meets the winner of the Rumania-Italy contest in the third round.
