The Governor-General, Sir Charles Vereusson. and Lady Alice Fcrgusson, forurned this morning from a fishing „P in the Taupo district. Their Excellencies will give a ball at Governtient Rouse to-morrow night. The Hon. W. Downie Stewart, Minister of Finance, has arrived in Auckland from Rotorua. He is accompanied by Miss Stewart and Mr. F. G. Jlatthews. They will leave for Wellington to-morrow. The Hon. F. J. Rolleston, Minister c t justice, returned to Wellington from the South to-day. jtr . A. Turner returned by the Tofua yesterday from a business visit to Suva. Mr. D. Rodio, business manager for the New Zealand Railways, returned to Wellington last evening. Commander Farquhar was a passenger for Wellington by the Limited last evening. Mr. T. Bloodworth left for Wellington by the Limited last evening. He was accompanied by Mrs. Bloodworth. Dr. F. E. Bolt, of Wellington, of the municipal hospital, Willesden, has been appointed assistant medical officer at the Whipps Cross Hospital, London. Sir Charles Skerrett, the Chief Justice, is reported to be progressing very satisfactorily at Wellington after his operation. No more medical bulletins will therefore be issued. Dr. L. G. Crow, of Wellington, and late of Auckland Hospital, is leaving by the Hororata on an extended visit to England for post-graduate experience. Mrs. Con Daly (Miss Edith Harrhy), the clever composer and pianist, who has been on a visit to New Zealand with her husband, left for Melbourne by the Manuka on Saturday. • Mr. V. Shipway, factory representative in Australia and New Zealand for Dodge Brothers, De troit, is staying at the Hotel Cargen. With him is Mr. T. Kirker, also of Detroit. Mr. A. Vialoux, son of Hamilton’s first Mayor, visited the town yesterday, after an absence of 50 years. Mr Vialoux was one of the first editors of the Thames “Star,” and has bad varied experiences in the pioneer journalism of the Dominion. Mr. E. Casey, divisional superintendent, Mr. J. K. Lowe, district engineer, and Mr. J. G. Rickerby, district traffic manager, left for Kirikopnni this morning to attend the official opening of the new section of railway there. Mr. J. F. Montague, of Auckland, is acting as adjudicator in the elocutionary sections at the Masterton competitions, which began yesterday. Mr Temple White, of Wellington, is adjudicating in the musical sections.
