NO USED CAR PROBLEM
POLICY OF AUCKLAND FIRM Mr. J. S. Laing, manager for the Auckland Province of the Dominion Motors, Limited, gives the following opinion on the used car situation in Auckland. “As far as we are concerned.” stated Mr. Laing, “the used car situation offers no problem at all. We have placed our trading policy on the same plane as that operating in the new car department. The old days of ‘horse trading’ methods as applied to the motor trade, have gone by the board, with the result that anyone in the market for a motor-car and who is not in a position to pay the price of a new one can buy a used car with the assurance of a sound and honest deal. “Our policy is briefly this. Two highly-skilled executives of this organisation are entrusted with the entire work of appraising values for trade-in purposes. We work on the basis of value from start to finish, and every car traded in is bought at current market value. Hence the nricefoperating in our used car department have been so attractive that we find no difficulty in marketing used cars. “The worcl ‘used’ car,” continued Mr. Laing, “is a misnomer and I use it for want of a better one. Actually the reliable trader is to-day selling unused mileage and not used c«rs.” Concluding, Mr. Laing stated that he looked to the future with optimism considering the satisfactory state of the finances and said: “I believe that it will only be a matter of time when most of the families in New Zealand who at present run one car will be emerging into the two-car family class.”
The effect of uniform lubrication by a mechanical pump, added to the effect of a good air cleaner, probably increases the mileage 50 pe.r cent, between the periods of decarbonisation.
