Y.W.C.A. ACTIVITIES

MONTHLY MEETING OF BOARD The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Y.W.C.A. was held yesterday, Mrs. G. 11. "Wilson presiding. The devotional period was based on the Bible study, “Jesus Christ and the World of To-day,” and was most interesting. Much gratification was expressed by the board on Miss Law, national secretary for New Zealand, having been asked by the World’s Office to represent New Zealand at the World’s Conference to be held in Budapest in June. Every confidence was felt in Miss Law's ability to make a worth-while contribution to the conference, and it was felt that on her return the association would receive through her a more vital sense of their connection with the World’s Association. The business of the conference includes discussion on Y.W.C.A. aims and methods, the industrial problems of women, and Bible study. During the month a membership afternoon was held, when Mrs. ToddSmith presided and the purpose of the association was well discussed. Songs were contributed by Mrs. Kersey and afternoon tea was served. At the close of the afternoon a presentation of a brass tray was made to Mrs. Snowdon on the eve of her approaching marriage.

The Overseas Club gave a very happy party on "Wednesday last, when Mrs. Clark was the guest of honour and expressing their love and esteem for her presented her with a brass jardiniere. Miss Begg reported that all departments were working satisfactorily. In the senior department 12 clubs have been formed, and although programmes were only just in the making, several had selected good courses of slfcudy. Each club is doing some community service, such as providing blankets and working for the social workers of the city. The girls’ department has begun a programme, “Know Your Movement,” which is providing an enlightenment for the girls. The Girl Citizens paraded for the Anzac Day afternoon service and contributed a wreath which they made themselves. During the month the Mother’s Club has been visited by Her Excellency Lady Alice Fergusson, and on Tuesday last, the Rev. W. Monckton gave them an interesting address on China. On May 31 the World Fellowship Committee will hold a Birthday at Home, when it is hoped there will be a large attendance of members and friends, and an opportunity will be given of meeting Miss Bromwell, who is taking up work with the association.
