ORPHANS MEET
DEVONPORT CLUB A strong delegation of visiting brothers attended the opening of the 1928 session of the Devonport Orphan Club on Saturday evening, and were welcomed cordially by the president, Mr. H. S W. Bing. Apologies for inability to attend were received from the Auckland and Paeroa Club representatives. Mr. E. V. Suther’and, of Onehunga, acknowledged the welcome and congratulated Mr King on his second term as president, his sentiments being applauded by delegates from Onehunga, Te Awamutu, Papakura, Takapuna, Birkenhead and Northcote and Otahuhu. Reference was made to the fact that Mr. G. Sollitt. secretary, had resigned owing to his being transferred from Auckland, and to the retirement from the orchestra of Mr. F. L. Gribbin, for many years conductor, and Mr. Carl Prime, the orcestra leader. A good concert programme was supplied by the orchestra, under the baton of Mr W. D’Authreau: Messrs. E. Snell, H. Baker, Tait, H. Valentine, Rex Yates, George Poore and H. Richards.
