MUSEUM FINANCES
SMALL WORKING BALANCE SHOW-CASE PAYMENTS The Auckland Museum’s balance sheet this year shows a debit of £1,595, the expended portion of a temporary overdraft of £2,000 arranged to meet payments for showcases. The actual working balance available, however, is £404. Reporting to the council, the curator, Mr. G. Archey, says: The usual receipts for the working account have been up to expectation, £423 7s; invested funds, £1,961 9s 9d; and in addition we have the pleasure of recording the sum of £338 19s lOd, special subscriptions for the acquisition of specimens. The City Council’s grant of £2,000 made possible the undertaking of much important work in preparation for removal to the new building as well as providing for the heavy general expenditure of the year. The large expenditure on specimens was offset by special subscriptions, while new items were £230 2s 9d for removal and for reconditioning the large carved houses, and £lls 0s 9d interest on the advances, £9,700, raised to meet progress payments on the showcase contract, until they are able to secure the balance of the purchase money for the present site. The invested funds increased by £126 for life members’ subscriptions and £3O 9s lid from the sale of endowment lands: £132 7s 5d was withdrawn from the site sale account toward the payment for showcases, and the capital fund now stands at £26,446 Is lOd.
