ROYAL MARINES SIGN DECLARATIONS OF LOYALTY
■WHAT the blank, blank is »’ this!” A Royal Marine who returned from Samoa yesterday on the Tutanekai had every reason to be mildly astonished. He was being asked to sign a declaration of loyalty to the King, just like any tourist who comes into the country. In fact, all the Royal Marines who had been on duty in Apia were busily signing declarations of loyalty. They felt almost that their characters were being besmirched. But still they signed up in good spirits, filling in their birth places, sex, age, etc., to the accompaniment of a brisk line of patter. Taking coals to Newcastle had nothing on the Royal Marines yesterday.
