FORGERS PUNISHED
TWO YEARS’ GAOL FOR ONE FARM HAND’S OFFENCE “You have very bad records. If possible, Harrison is worse than the other,” commented Mr. Justice Blair, in the Supreme Court this morning, in sentencing Daniel Hebley and George Harrison, who had been found guilty of forgery, forging and uttering, aryl obtaining goods b3 r false pretences. Two 3 r ears’ imprisonment with hard labour was imposed on Harrison. Hebley was sentenced to 12 months’ reformative detention. PROBATION FOR THEFT One year’s probation was given Gordon Sidney Hayward, a Whangarei farm hand, when he appeared before Mr. Justice Blair in the Supreme Court this morning, having previously admitted four charges of theft. His Honour observed that no doubt there had been a certain amount of temptation. In addition to the usual terms of probation, he directed that accused repay the cost of the stolen wire and also the costs of the prosecution.
