ANNOYED WITH CREDITOR
BANKRUPT CANVASSER IGNORES ORDER OF COURT “It is pretty obvious that you are annoyed with your creditor and you have made up your mind you will not pay her.” The official assignee, Mr. G. N. Morris, expressed this opinion to Edward Carr, a bankrupt canvasser, of Swanson Street, who was examined this morning. Mr. Morris added that if Carr persisted in refusing to pay, his discharge would be opposed until he decided to make some effort to reduce his debts. He owed £94 to unsecured creditors and had no assets. Explaining his debts, Carr said that he had been a canvasser for the last eight years. Owing to business depression during the last two 3 r ears he had earned less than a living. The immediate cause of his petition in bankruptcy was a judgment of the court to pay 5s a week for arrears of rent. He could not pay this and had no offer to make. Bankrupt owed debts extending over a period of 23 years.
“I am satisfied that you drink a fair bit and that you are in a position to pay the court order,” said the assignee.
