“TO HELL WITH DOLES”

Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. “To hell with doles. The unemployed don’t want them. No self-respecting man wants a woman to stand at the street corner with a box in her hand, cadging money in his name. What he wants is work. “"There is no need for cadging exhibitions. There is no need to send women to social welfare committees begging for food.” These remarks were made by Mr. R. Semple, late national president of the New Zealand Labour Party, and secretary of the Wellington General Labourers’ Union, in addressing a meeting of unemployed at the Trades Hall this morning.
