INDUSTRIALS IN BETTER TONE BUSINESS for the week opened up on ’Change this morning with a bright tone in the market for all the better classes of securities.

A steady demand continues for banking scrip with New Zealands commanding the most attention on a market firm around 60s 3d. Unions of Australia have a slightly firmer tone, with sellers at £ls supported by buyers at £l4 17s. Insurances are quiet. In coals, Hikurangi preference scrip improved to see sales at 8s 3d, with more wanted at Bs. Waipas and Renowns are dull and neglected. The industrial section continues to indicate a generally brighter tone in trade generally, the principal trend for all the better classes of industrials being upward. Sellers of Col-

onial Sugars came in this morning at £6l, to find support from buyers at £59 10s. Taranaki Oils are slightly firmer with sellers asking 9s. In mining, Ohinemuris have hardened slightly to see sellers at 7s 6d supported by buyers at 7s. Waihis have also improved to Sellers 12s 6d. buyers 12s Id. Business at this morning’s early call. —Reported: Bank of N.Z., 60s 3d; Tonson Garlick, 12s. Business at to-day’s mid-day call.— On ’Change: Hikurangi Coal (pref.), 8s 3d (two parcels).
