FOR THE REGENT
Great fires called salamanders glowed in tall iron baskets around the street corner, and between “shooting” we gathered round them to get warm, while others would curl up in the taxis, and snatch a little sleep. It was a weird night. Suddenly, there would be bursts of activity—this quiet little out of the way corner, dozing away the wee sma’ hours under a glorious moon, would become New York, with its hurrying crowds, roaring traffic, and busy mid-day atmosphere.
Now I’m busy on “Polly Preferred.” Marion Davies’s new picture, with King King Vidor directing. Marion has to play the part of a young smalltown girl, who wants to break into the movies. She comes through the big studio gates, into the casting office, is chosen as an “extra,” and is shown working in her first picture, and having her first meal at the studio commissary. I have been working in the casting office, and commissary scenes. Marion Davies looks very cute with her yellow curls peeping from under a navy and red hat, perched on the top of her head. She has a short, navysilk frock on, and looks just sweet I sixteen. Marion is the jolliest star lat the M-G-M, and one of the most popular. She always has something j funny to say, and sees the amusing | side of everything.
