CONSTABLE ASSAULTED
STRUCK ON FACE “SAVAGE MAN” GAOLED “The next time a policeman talks to you, listen to Him,” said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., to-day at the Police Court when he sentenced Charles Nelsen, aged 45, to 14 days* imprisonment.
Nelsen was charged with drunkenness, resisting arrest, and assaulting Constable Archibald Moore.
Constable Moore said that he saw accused in a drunken state last evening, and warned him twice to go home. Accused suddenly hit witness over the mouth with a heavy piece of wood. He violently resisted arrest.
‘'He’s a savage man in liquor,” said Senior-Sergeant Cummings.
For drunkenness, Xelsen was fined £2. On the charge of resisting no penalty was inflicted, but for assault he was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment.
