BIG FILM PROGRAMME “The Climbers,” starring Irene Rich, is now being shown at the Prince Edward Theatre. “The Climbers” is an historic melodrama of the Court of Ferdinand VII. of Spain, which means that the time is about ISIO. The scene changes to a plantation of the part of America known in that period as Xew Spain. The story is the aftermath of the scheme of the Countess Veya to gain power with the King. To accomplish her ends she manages to incriminate the blameless Duchess of Arrogan by having her found in the company of Cordova, who himself is unaware of the duplicity of the scheme of which he is made a party. Both he and the Duchess are banished to America, she being separated from her child Laska. Embittered against all humanity, tT\ Duchess, on her plantations in' the Xew World becomes the cruel slavedriver, grows immensely rich, but mourns unfailingly for her lost child. Cordova, a devil-may-care person, becomes a Robin Hood sort of bandit, and coming upon the splendid hacienda of the Duchess for the purpose of robbing, he stays to make love.
“Jaws of Steel” is the second feature, with Rin-Tin-Tin, the wonder dog
