LIBERATION OF PHEASANTS
POSITION AT TE AROHA The executive of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society met about 70 delegates of sub-societies and other sportsmen in Te Aroha. The president, Mr. F. E. McKenzie, in outling the policy of the society in liberating game, snid that in future birds would be liberated only on areas of 2,000 acres. The birds were to be protected for three years, and the owners of the land must agree to licences being issued to shoot over the properties, itherwise the birds would not be provided.
The scheme met with unanimous approval. The secretary, Mr. C. M. Gowan.
slated that the credit balance of the society was £637. He predicted a serious decrease in the revenue from licences this season, i Lake Rotongaru was declared a sanctuary. It was agreed to clos< the lower half of Lake Arapuni from > car |to year, instead of declaring it a sanctuary. A similar decision wa* reached in regard to the Selwyn district.
