DILAPIDATED HOSPITAL
NEW BUILDING DELAYED DR. VALINTINE BLAMED Press Association. INVERCARGILL, To-day. Strong comment was made at the Hospital Board meeting regarding the Director-General of Health, Dr. T. H. A. Valintine’s, omission to forward a recommendation in writing concerning the proposed new hospital at Kew. A member said that Dr. Valintine had left the board in a quandary as, while lie condemned the present hospital, he would not agree to go on with the one at Kew. The chairman, Mr. John Matheson, stressed the urgent need of something being done and remarked that he would like to see someone put a match to the present building provided the patients got sufficient warning.
The secretary said that the rear portion had been described as a leaky barrel. Many of the patients were accommodated on verandahs and balconies protected by canvas screens, and in rough weather suffered discomfort from wind and rain. About the whole main building there was an air of dilapidation.
