RATES REDUCED

ONE TREE HILL AREA SUBSTANTIAL RELIEF A substantial reduction, ranging from to 4Jd in the £1 is the main feature of rates to be struck for the coming year in the One Tree Hill Road Board district. This was finally decided at a meeting of the road board held last Wednesday evening. Although reduced 3d last year, the general rate has been reduced a further 2d this year, and now stands at Is Id. Hospital and interest rates have been increased by Jd, and street lighting has been increased from 2j|d to 3d. With the elimination of water works loan interest, which is now paid by the water account, the total consolidated rate is 2s 33d, which is a reduction of 13d on last year. In the No. 1 special rating area the rate has been reduced from 3s lid to 2s IOJd. Numbers 2 and 3 areas, which include interest on sewage loan amounting to Is Id and Is lid respectively, show reductions of 2d and l£d, the rates now standing at 3s 7Jd and 3s Bd. As there is no addition to the consolidated rate in No. 4 area, the rate there stands at 2s 33d, being a reduction of 4Jd. The total rates will produce £22,381, against £23,309 last year, approximately £I,OOO less, but the actual relief to ratepayers is nearly £2,000, as the added improvements last year account for practically £I,OOO of the current year’s rates.
