FOOTBALL GROUNDS
TROUBLE AT DEVONPORT QUESTION OF ALLOCATION The rapid development of sport bodies in Devonport is causing the Borough Council some anxiety in the supplying of playing areas. At its meeting last evening representatives of the United Football Club accused the council of partiality in allocating grounds. The club stated that the Rugby code had the use of two grounds as last year, and the League club considered that, as it has nine teams in the competitions it should have been given the second ground. The charge was quickly denied, and the fact that the football clubs had suggested closing down the whole of the grounds for one season to permit of reconditioning them was mentioned. It was stated that the allocation of grounds was left as last year, though only one ground was definitely given each code. Next 3*ear one field will be available at Stanley Bay. The Rugby Union has renewed an offer made last season to help develop grounds at Narrow Neck, and a committee of Messrs. Hislop, Ellisdon Lyon and Walsh will meet the union to endeavour to finalise matters.
