TO-MORROW’S SOCCER

Naval Championship Game

SHORE v ONEHUNGA AT THE PARK

THE attractions at headquarters to-morrow will be the Service championship encounter between teams from H.M.S. Dunedin and H.M.S. Diomede, and following - this game two of the leading - teams in the championship, Shore and Onehunga, meet at 3 p.m. Tramways v. Ponsonby is set down for Onehunga, and Y.M.C.A. v. Belmont at Devonport. Thistle also meets Northeote.

A S the Diomede leaves shortly for refitting at Home, and will not return to her station till next spring, the match between the rival cruisers will be the only opportunity of seeing them in action till the end of the season. There is keen rivalry between the ships in all sports, and Soccer is the favourite struggle. Both teams got in a lot of practice at Samoa during the recent trouble there, and a hard and fast match between them should draw a large attendance of the servicemen and the public. The second game should provide a lively championship bout between Onehunga and Shore. Each club has only lost one game to the all-conquering Y.M.C.A., and • both teams are lively combinations of young players who play the fast and open long-passing game, so there should not be a dull moment in the match to-morrow. The unbeaten leaders, Y.M.C.A., will meet Belmont at Devonport, and, unless something unexpected happens, the Young Men should have no difficulty in retaining their place at the top of the ladder. Ponsonby and Trams will decide their game at Onehunga. Owing to an abnormal amount of casualties the corporation team has had to enlist some assistance outside the service, and the reinforced eleven should give the Ponies a hard tussle for the points. Thistle will meet Northeote, and although the Blues are improving, it will be a surprise if the Scots are not successful in notching the full points.
