SATURDAY’S RUGBY LEAGUE

Matches at Carlaw Park

MARIST v SHORE IN BIG GAME

RICHMOND LEAGUERS take the bye to-morrow, but the r „progTamme at League headquarters appears very bright, and, favoured with a fine day, some fast and open football can be expected. In the 3 o’clock game on No. 1 ground, Shore appears likely to clinch a victory from Marists, who are making its second appearance this season.

The big Rugby League attraction at Car law Park to-morrow will be the clash between Marists and Devonport. A close contest with plenty of fast and open play can be anticipated from the two thirteens after last Saturday’s games. Certainly the “Tykes” suffered defeat by Richmond, but that was their first appearance for the season and they showed great promise of improving in every department of the play. Devonport, however, has not been defeated so far this season and if any improvement is shown on last week’s play, it will no doubt be the favourite in the big game. Newton and Ponsonby on No. 2 ground will provide a good match, and some real hard football should be witnessed. On previous performances this season neither team has yet stepped into its stride but something unusual may be seen to-morrow.

Ellerslie and City will meet on the Domain, while Richmond will take the bye.
