Sydney cablegram of April that the Civic Commissioners, who were holding an investigation into the pur- °* electrical apparatus during the trust had made a discovery of 2™®*, moneys, an explanation cf which was desired, from Silas Y. Maling, deputygeneral manager of the City Council’s electricity department, who -recently secy r f<J a medical certificate on the ground of illness, prior to taking a long leave and going to New Zealand. A police-detective had gone to New Zealand to interview Mr. Maling before he continued his voyage to the United States, concerning the ownership of large sums of trust money which were remitted from Britain to Sydney. The perthen held the money informed the Taxation Department that he was holding it on behalf of Mr. Maling, whose answer to this assertion was so essen-‘-hat it was regarded as necessary that he should return to Sydney. The £?0 000 involved was estimated at Mr. Maling left for Sydney by the Makura, which left Wellington on Tuesday last. •
