TRAMCARS COLLIDE IN SYMONDS STREET

NO PASSENGERS HURT While a tramcar was standing in Symonds Street, opposite St. Paul’s Church, at about 9.30 a.m. to-day, it was struck and damaged by another travelling in the same direction. No one was injured. Both cars were on their way to the city, and it is understood that failure of the brakes of the second car was responsible for the collision. The standing car had its control gear damaged, and the glass at the end smashed. A woman passenger in the moving tramcar was somewhat shaken, but otherwise unhurt, and was attended to nearby. The service was not disorganised, and evidence of the impact, shattered glass, with which the street was strewn, was quickly removed.
