PARISHIONERS’ RIGHTS

BILL TO PROVIDE FURTHER POWER ANGLO-CATHOLIC PROBLEM (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Atistralian Pres 3 Association.) Reed. 12.26 p.m. LONDON, Wed. In the House of Commons, Lieut.Commander F. W. Astbury introduced a Bill to extend parishioners’ rights in respect to presentation of church benefices. He quoted the disturbances at Darwen because an AngloCatholic was forced upon an unwilling congregation. The Bill gave parochial councils power of veto if they disapproved of an appointment. Major J. D. Birchall opposed the Bill and said that the Church Assembly was the right-body to deal with the matter. The Bill was read the first time.
