FOREMAN FOR 40 YEARS
SERVICES APPRECIATED CAMBRIDGE PRESENTATION (From Our Oven Correspondent) CAMBRIDGE, To-day. A large and representative gathering of ratepayers of the Cambridge Road Board, now amalgamated with the Waikato County, met at tlie Hautapu Hall last evening to fittingly recognise the faithful service of Mr. Thomas Pennell, foreman for the board for a period of over 40 years. On behalf of the ratepayers and friends Mr. Martin Butler, one of the oldest chairmen of the board, presented Mr. Pennell with a silver cigarette case and a substantial cheque, also an eiderdown quilt to Mrs. Pennell. Tributes were paid to Mr. Pennell’s fine record service by Mr. M. Butler, Mr. E. Veale, one time secretary. Mr. W. Harbutt, Mr. G. M. Watt, former chairmen, and Messrs. H. Alan Bell, J. N. Entwistle and F. Veale, former members of the board. Mr. G. M. Watt, late chairman, gave a review of the board’s affairs just prior to the amalgamation. and a resolution placing on record the ratepayers’ and settlers’ appreciation of the services rendered the district by successive boards for the last half century, was carried.
