WAIHI HOSPITAL
ALLEGATIONS DENIED BOARD WELCOMES INQUIRY (From Our Own Correspondent) WAIHI, Wednesday. The Thames Borough Council recently parsed a resolution protesting against the Waihi Hospital Board’s levy of £1,941 and requesting the Minister of Health to appoint a commission to inquire into the affairs of the hospital board. The letter conveying the terms of the resolution came before the hospital board last evening. The chairman, Mr. J. E. Slevin, said that the board had endeavoured to keep expenditure in connection with the administration of the institution as low as possible, consistent with efficiency. He said he would welcome an inquiry. The secretary-manager, Mr. J. W. Tetley, said the demands upon the council had been decreased. The Mayor, Mr. W. M. Wallnut, in moving 1 the motion of protest adopted by the Borough Council, had alleged that the levy for the year exceeded that of 1924 by £624, whereas the books made it quite clear that there had been a reduction of approximately, £BOO.
After others had spoken in defence of the board, a letter from the town clerk covering the resolution of protest was received.
