FIRE BRIGADE WANTS GOVERNMENT GRANT
MR. HOLLAND’S ADVICE Press Association. WESTPORT, Wednesday. In answer to a request by the Westport Fire Brigade that he should urge the Government to restore the grant of £I,OOO toward the next demonstration in February, Mr. H. E. Holland, Leader of the Opposition, stated his willingness to do so. He strongly urged the brigade to get the executive of the New Zealand Fire Brigade Association to form a deputation and meet the Prime Minister and other Ministers of the Crown and to arrange for all members of Parliament who are in favour of the grant to form a deputation and get a definite promise from the Minister as to what lie intends to do.
The deputation should meet during the first week of the session and arrange for an old fire brigade M.P. to speak on behalf of the members. This will, it is assumed, be Mr. Bellringer, of New Plymouth, past president of the association. Mr. Holland’s letter has been forwarded to Mr. T. E. Watts, secretary of the association, for him to act upon.
