SMALL PERCENTAGE IN BRITAIN COST OF ELECTIONEERING (Australian Pratt Association) LONDON, Tuesday. At the report stage of the Equal Franchise Bill. Mr. Philip Snowden moved an amendment to abolish all plural voting, instead of giving it to propertied women as well as men. Sir William Joynson Hicks. Home Secretary: **lf we were making electoral amendment this might be reasonable.” The Bill simply gave women the vote on the same terms as men. Plural voters would only be 450,000 out of 25,000.000. The amendment was defeated by 216 votes to 178. Mr. Kennedy moved further to reduce the maximum a candidate could spend on city and borough elections. Sir William Joynson-Hicks said that Labour won 20 seats in London Borough at an expenditure of J.65d per elector. The Conservatives won 31 seats at 4d. and the Liberals three at a cost of 4 l-34d.
The amendment was defeated by •> > -i votes to 100.
The Bill was read a third time.
