fe BEEF MARKET FIRM WESTFIELD SALE QUALITY COWS FORWARD An average yarding of beef a-: Westfield to-day met with a firm market. Choice, well-finished young cattle sold under keen competition. The biggest part of the ox beef ya «9l.v,? comprised well finished, medium-wciglit cattle drawn from all parts of the province. Southern Waikato vendors were well represented. Big-framed heavyweight steers were well in the minority, but the lines qualifying for this grade were mostly well done, and met with Keen competition. There was a fair sprinkling of light and inferior finished steers, out, geoerally, the appearance of the yarding indicated that there was more feed about and that holders were not prepared to rush stock forward for sale until they were at least reasonably prime. A North Auckland vendor, P. H. Going, Mangakahia, topped the market with -1 heavy, prime, big-framed bullocks, which made to £l6 15s, averaging £3 6 ss. The biggest portion of the line was exceptionally well done. Mrs. Main, Tamahere, Lower Waikato, was responsible for the next best line, 14 mostly heavy prime steers from this vendor making to £l6 -s 6d, and. averaging £l4 15s Sd. Wellfinished medium weight prime bullocks made £l2 5s to £l3 ss, lighter and small prime, £lO 5s to £ll 17s 6d; small and inferior finished from £8 10s. Stockbrokers’ quotations for choice ox ranged up to 375. Though not heavy, the cow and he iter yarding from a quality point of view was one of the best seen at Westfield for several weeks. Dairy strains were not so much in evidence, and £lO was exceeded frequently for extra well-finished choice prime young cows. A line of extra choice young cow beef from the Waikato made to £l2 10s.
