PRIME OX VALUES ADVANCE (Special to THE SUN) HAMILTON. Tuesday. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering- Company, report:— At the weekly stock sale in the Frankton yards to-day, we had an average yarding of fat catle. Values for prime ox and cow beef advanced on the previous week's rates. Plain and unfinished cattle sold at late quotations. A full entry of fat sheep was penned and the yarding comprised chiefly good quality mutton, for which competition was firm at further improved values. Fat and store pigs came forward in large numbers. Heavy to medium baconers and good porkers were in demand and showed increased values. Unfinished porkers sold at late rates. There was a better tone in the market for weaners and slips. We quote:— Beef.—Good quality medium-weight prime steers, £l3 Is to £l4: prime heavycows, £9 5s to £lO 15s: medium weight fat cows and heifers, £7 10s to £S 12s 6d: light and young fat cows, £6 10s to £7 ss; plain and unfinished cows, £4 7s 6d to £5 10s. Mutton.—Prime fat wethers sold to 345: good quality lighter prime wethers to 335; extra good early shorn prime young ewes, to 335: best prime heavy ewes, 29s 3d to 29s 7d; lighter prime ewes to 27s fid; medium quality and weights. 25s to 25s 6d: fat lambs, 225. Pigs.—Prime heavy baconers. £4 9s to £4 15s: medium baconers, £3 16s to £4 2s: light, £3 Is to £3 Ss; heavyporkers, £2 16s to £3 2s; medium porkers, £2 5s to £2 11s: light and unfinished porkers, 34s to 395: stores, 21s to 255: slips, 15s to 17s 6d: weaners, 6s to Ss 6d. Dalgety and Company report:—There was a moderate yarding of beef. All young prime cows and steers made higher prices than last sale, only a small portion being of good quality. Choice ox and young cow beef sold at equal to 36s to 3Ss per 100. Choice lightweight steers made up to £ll 2s 6d. Choice light heifers up to £lO. Ordinarv fat cows. £6 10s to £7 15s. Light fat cows. £5 to £6 2s 6d. Eighteenmonths runner steers made to £7 ss. Good vealers, £2 6s to £3 15s. Store cattle were yarded in small numbers, and late rates were obtained. Two-year Jersey cross steers, £3. Store cows, £3 ss. There was an average yarding of fat sheep, which met with a good demand. Our entry comprised 955. All lines of fat and store sheep were disposed of at very satisfactory- prices. Our principal sales were: 270 fat wethers, 335; 317 forward condition wethers,
30s lOd to 31s 3d; 25 fat ewes, 265; 85 late shorn store wethers, 275: 42 shorn Romney ewe. lambs, 245; 44 wether lambs, 19s 3d; 60 2,4, 6 and 8-toothed Romney ewes in lamb to Leicester and Southdown rams, 29s 3d. There was an extra large yarding of pigs which sold under keen competition. The following prices were realised: Heavy baconers, £3 9s to £3 16s; porkers. 29s to 365; stores, £1 to 325; good weaners, 12s 6d to 18s. THE HOME MARKET PRODUCE PRICES Cable advice received from London by the Bank of New South Wales quotes the following prices:— Wool. —Quiet, pending openings of sales next week. Mutton.—Wethers, 5d to quiet, firm: ewes, 4ld to 51d, good demand; lambs, 9d to lOd, think will probably remain steady. Beef.—3id to s£d. Firm. Pork.—6d to 7d. Butter.—l64s Very quiet. Cheese.—97s to 98s. Steady. LONDON WOOL SALES FINE CROSSBREDS GO WELL (United, P.A.—By Telegraph — CopyrightJ (Australian P.A.—United Service) Dalgety and Company have received the following cablegram dated London, May 8: The wool sales opened with competition fair. The attendance was large, and selection miscellaneous. As compared with closing rates of last series. Merinos change if any in favour of buyers; halfbred, par to Id lower; crossbred fine, par to Id lower; crossbred medium and coarse, unchanged: slipes fine, Id to l?.d lower; slipes, other descriptions, par to Id lower.
