TIMBER FOR BUTTER-BOXES

N.Z. WOODS FAVOURED (Prom Our Own Correspondt.nt) HAMILTON, Tuesday. Although a recent report of the Forest Service states that ever-increasing importations of foreign timbers for butter boxes and cheese crates are seriously Ihreatening the industry, the New Zealand Dairy Company, and all other companies in the Waikato use nothing but New Zealand woods for this purpose. The price is fixed by the New Zealand Dairy Co. and all other box factories conform with it. Ever since foreign wood was first used for box making the Dairy Company has retained the use of kahikatea which, although dearer, is said to be superior to the imported wood. It is stated that in Taranaki the box factories used New Zealand wood but in the Northern Wairoa., on the other hand, foreign woods are favoured.
