LIBERTY OF CONSCIENCE (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association.) LONDON, Sunday. In the course of a sermon at Cambridge, Cardinal Bourne said it was conceivable that the day would come when a British Sovereign would feel he could not longer declare himself a faithful Protestant. “What will happen?” asked the cardinal: “I suppose means will legally be taken to declare that the bond of allegiance has ceased. “Many Englishmen will then say: ‘Why should the King of England alone among men be deprived of that liberty of conscience to which the Protestants attach such importance. It may be that legally he has lost his claim to our allegiance, but this we will voluntarily renew, whatever be the religion he professes.’ ”
